August Rush

What’s Up!

August is almost here! It’s amazing to think that in just a couple of weeks, schools will re-open their doors, sporting events will start up (they already have), and youth groups will be back in full swing. I don’t know about you but the last one is what I am super pumped about. This year we are striving, as always, to engage Jesus in a way that will impact young people’s lives forever.

Our August Newsletter is up! Check it out on the calender tab.

Some things you will notice on the newsletter. First of all, this newsletter is jam packed with information regarding technology you need to know about. This is one of the most interesting newsletters we have put out to date. Be sure to read everything carefully.

As for other information, the calendar shows the following.

  • Sunday night GeNESIS events will stay the same. We will meet as a junior high group (7th grade and 8th grade) from 5:30 to 7:00 pm and high school group (9th through 12th grade) at 7:30 to 9:00 pm.
  • Back-to-School Lock-in for both junior high and high school students from 8 pm to 8 am on Wednesday August 6th.
  • Putt-Putt golf and activity outing to Centerfield park on Saturday August 16th. Be sure to keep a look out for more information on this event.
  • “DEEPER” bible study. This bible study will help high school teens engage God deeper than we do on Sunday nights. This is an intense study that we encourage all our core group high school students to attend.

I am excited to start this awesome year!

Our purpose at GeNESIS is always to aid young people in their daily relationship with Jesus Christ and help you as a parent equip teens with the word of God. Our desire is to teach, equip, and encourage each other as we all go into their community to make disciples (Matt. 28). Only then will we all see young men and women become powerful leaders now and in the future through the relationship they have with Jesus Christ.

See ya Sunday Night August 3rd!

Take a H.I.K.E

Have you been taking notes on the H.I.K.E. Series? We have. Here’s some help for you get closer to God through prayer. Go ahead, take a hike!

  • H = Hide and Seek - Point: You need to set aside time to talk with God. Although you shouldn’t be afraid to pray in front of others, you should spend most of your prayer time alone with God. You can pray any time, any place, but choose a prayer spot for yourself to get alone with God. Use this time to seek to be closer to Him. Jesus IS God and He even set aside time to spend alone with God, so we should too. (Check out Matthew 6:6)
  • I = Include Variety and Intercession - Point: Just like our body needs a good variety of foods to stay healthy and grow, our prayer life needs some variety. The Lord’s Prayer is a pattern of things to include when we talk to God. Thanksgiving, praise, intercession, confession, adoration, asking, seeking, listening. All of these things have a place in our prayers. We can get stuck in a rut of just praying one way all the time. We need to consciously mix it up to enjoy a healthier relationship with God in prayer. (Check out Luke 11)
  • K = Know Him Enough to Trust Him - Point: Sometimes we feel weird talking to God. We don’t know what to say or what to talk about. That’s because we don’t know Him well enough. We have lots to talk to our friends about because we know them really well. You have to pray a lot to get more comfortable with God. Knowing God leads us to trust Him. When we are faced with difficult times, we will be sure that God will be there for us. We will trust him because we have gotten to know Him so well. (Check out Psalm 9)
  • E - ?

What’s the last part of the hike?  Come on in and find out in our last Sunday of the Semester.  Sunday night at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (both j.v. and varsity)

See you then!

Tomorrow…

Awesome!

Retreat Information

THE QUESTIONS: Who, What, When, Where, and How much…

Who? The GeNESIS youth group and The Difference youth group from Monmouth IL will all be in attendance.

What? Retreat (r-trt) n. The act or process of withdrawing, especially from something hazardous, formidable, or unpleasant. The process of going backward or receding from a position or condition gained. A place affording peace, quiet, privacy, or security. The whole purpose is for you, the student, to leave where you are right now so that you can recharge your batteries with other youth by experiencing engaging discussions, leadership training, genuine community, and some really great food.

When? June 13th and 14th for all soon to be freshmen in high school and high school students.

Where? Peoria IL at Faith Bible Camp.

How Much? $40.  All Money needs to be turned in by June 8th.  This cost covers all food, lodging for Friday night, and gas.  No money means you don’t go and that would be a bummer.  Money is to be turned in to either Jordan or Bethany Muck.

For any other questions you might have contact Jordan or Bethany.

See You Sunday Night!

Updates

Gear up for summer by getting your friendships bound.  We are all bound to one another through the bond of friendship but what happens when the people we thought were our friends fail us?  How do we establishs friendships that are going to last?  Are friendships really that important?  Come on over Sunday night to get the answers to these questions and you all of your other questions as we start this brand new “bound” series!

Also we are printing up schedules with all our events and activities for this summer.  Make sure to see Bethany to pick up your copy so you’re not missing out on any activities.

Shirts are here and waiting for you!  Make sure to get yours today!  $15 for students and $12 for staff (sizes s-xl).

See you Sunday night!
